Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright is pleased to announce that Quebec senior litigation partner Éric Hardy has been appointed by the Government of Canada as a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec for the district of Quebec.

The Superior Court of Quebec, the province’s highest trial court, hears civil and criminal matters as well as certain appeals.

Olga Farman, managing partner in Quebec City, said:

“Éric has been with our firm for 26 years and while his support, experience and commitment to the firm will be missed, we are proud that it will now benefit the legal system in a larger way.”

As a litigator, Éric has argued cases before all courts of Quebec and the Supreme Court of Canada, mainly representing the defense in actions relating to commercial law, insurance law as well as civil and professional liability law. In his practice, he has handled class actions, including compulsive gambling, and litigated transnational legal disputes.

Chair of the firm’s student committee for five years, Éric showed a commitment to training and mentoring young lawyers. His involvement in strengthening the legal community extended to the Quebec Bar Council, for which he served as treasurer for three years. He also sat on the Quebec Bar’s General Council and Strategic Committee.

Éric attended Université Laval in Quebec City and studied intellectual property, information technology and comparative law as aCommonwealth Scholar at Queen Mary College, University of London, where he earned a Master of Laws. He was called to the Quebec Bar in 1990.
