Joanne Emerson Taqi

Joanne Emerson Taqi is a projects and construction lawyer based in Bahrain.

Joanne specialises in projects and construction in the real estate and infrastructure sectors. Joanne advises on all types of developments, including commercial, industrial, domestic and public, and all forms of contract, including the FIDIC suite of agreements, NEC, JCT and the Australian Standards.

Joanne has a particular experience on water (including wastewater, desalination and district cooling), waste (including waste to energy) and housing (including social housing and worker/staff accommodation) sectors and in PPP procurement. Joanne has experience advising government institutions, concessionaires, project companies, developers, contractors, consultants and financial institutions.

Significant transactions include advising on the Umm Al Hayman Wastewater Project to provide assistance to the Partnership Technical Bureau and the Ministry for Public Works in Kuwait in connection with the procurement of a waste water treatment plant and a sewage pipe transmission system. This will be the biggest WWTP in the Middle East. Joanne also advised on the Muharraq Wastewater Treatment PPP project, in partnership with HSBC, advised the Ministry of Finance on the construction and operation of a wastewater treatment plant in Muharraq (on a BOO basis).

Joanne is recognised as a key individual by Chambers & Partners Legal Directory 2013, which comments, “Joanne Emerson was the lead partner advising on CNIM's project and enjoys a strong reputation in Bahrain. She has experience on large infrastructure projects and impresses clients with her responsiveness and direct advice.” Joanne was also recognised as a Best Lawyer in 2012 in the finance area in Bahrain.
