Norton Rose Fulbright advises Enertronica on the acquisition of Unisun Energy (Proprietary) Limited

Business May 2016

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised Enertronica S.p.A. (Enertronica), an Italian listed company active in the energy sector in Italy and around the world, on the acquisition of 70 per cent of the corporate capital of Unisun Energy (Proprietary) Limited (Unisun). Unisun owns the rights to build, connect and operate a 6 MWp solar plant at Okatope, Oshikoto Region, in Namibia. This investment follows the acquisition by Enertronica in March 2016 of Sertum Energy Namibia and falls within Enertronica’s multi-year development and industrial consolidation plan in the Sub-Saharan Africa Region, where it has been increasingly active since 2012.

The solar park at Okatope is expected to be operative and connected to the grid by the end of 2016. It will be the second one built in Namibia under the Renewable Energy Feed in Tariff (REFIT) Programme and will enable Enertronica to become the first independent power producer in Namibia.

The Norton Rose Fulbright team for Enertronica was led by Luigi Costa, banking and energy senior associate based in Milan, who commented:

“This transaction confirms the strategic vision and strength of Enertronica in the Sub-Saharan African renewables industry. Enertronica’s substantial investment will help boost Namibia’s energy supply and could have a positive ripple effect in the Namibian economy overall. Our energy and infrastructure clients in Italy are looking carefully at the widespread business opportunities across the African continent and we are working diligently to service their needs in Italy, Africa and around the world.  We are delighted to have brought to a close yet another successful transaction for one of our top Italian clients, Enertronica.”
