International legal practice Norton Rose Group has advised Denham Capital Management LP, the US energy and commodities private equity firm, on its partnership with Fotowatio Renewable Ventures, a leading global operator in photovoltaic and thermosolar energy based in Spain.

The partnership will invest up to $191 million in solar energy projects in different jurisdictions around the world, including in Australia, Europe, South Africa and South America.

Norton Rose Group fielded a team from its London, Sydney and Amsterdam offices for the deal. The team was led by London partners Stephen Rigby and Jason Moss. Saskia Blokland (partner) led the work in Amsterdam, and Tim Woodforde (partner) led the work in Sydney.

Transactional tax advice was also given by Louise Higginbottom in London and Remco Smorenburg in Amsterdam.

Stephen Rigby, corporate partner at Norton Rose LLP commented:

“This deal is indicative of the continued private equity interest in the solar market, especially in areas like Australia, South Africa and South America. There’s a real confidence that this is a sector worth backing.

“For our part, it was particularly pleasing to pull together such an international team to meet the needs of Denham Capital. It’s a true example of high quality advice being coordinated and delivered across continents.”

Spanish legal advice was provided to Denham Capital by Juan Ignacio Gonzalez Ruiz of Uria Menendez.
