Johannesburg; Global legal practice Norton Rose Fulbright has honoured Nelson Mandela Day (Thursday, 18 July 2013) by participating in an Afrika Tikkun initiative. A team of energetic volunteers from Norton Rose Fulbright’s Johannesburg office packed non-perishable food parcels at the Uthando Centre in Braampark, Braamfontein in Gauteng which were distributed to 1,000 families throughout the province.

Afrika Tikkun is a not-for-profit organisation which aims to empower communities at Centres of Excellence including the Uthando Centre, which aims to develop generations of productive citizens through its Holistic Development Program. There are six centres spread across some of the most economically deprived areas of Gauteng and the Western Cape.

The firm’s staff also participated in the #HandsacrossSA campaign that calls for people throughout South Africa to hold hands for 67 seconds at 8:45am on Nelson Mandela Day as a gesture of unity and commitment to making South Africa a better place.

Rob Otty, managing director of Norton Rose Fulbright in South Africa, commented:

“We emulate Nelson Mandela’s example by taking action and inspiring change within our communities to make South Africa and the world a better place, one step at a time.”
