Global legal practice Norton Rose Fulbright announced today that experienced real estate partner Andrea Rezos will join as a partner in Perth. This follows the recent addition of insurance litigator Jehan-Philippe (JP) Wood from our London office.

Ms Rezos has most recently been a partner at Ashurst, where she joined the Perth partnership in 1999. She advises Australian and international institutions on large scale and complex property developments, property joint ventures and development management agreements, large scale infrastructure projects, sales, leasing, development and acquisition in the areas of commercial properties, large office complexes, retail, tourism, agribusiness and industrial.

Her appointment is part of a business strategy to drive growth in important emerging industries. Since senior insolvency and restructuring partner Chris McLeod took over as Perth head of office last year, Norton Rose Fulbright has made the following appointments to bolster our business in Western Australia:

  • New construction and major projects partner Adrienne Parker in July 2014;
  • Existing banking and finance partner Alen Pazin as head of our national infrastructure, mining and commodities industry group in December 2014.

Wayne Spanner, Managing Partner in Australia of Norton Rose Fulbright, said that practice had been carefully planning where the investment in new talent should be made to make the most of the West Australian market, especially given its close proximity to Asia.

“Andrea and JP are fine examples of the sort of capability and experience we are adding to our business,” he said. “Their depth of knowledge of the real estate and insurance markets respectively will be hugely beneficial to our clients.”

Ms Rezos said the Australian legal services market had undergone rapid change in recent years and clients were constantly re-evaluating who could best service their needs.

“Now more than ever, it is crucial to be part of a practice that is pursuing a business strategy that supports the very best domestic and cross-border work,” she said.

Mr Spanner said the recent senior appointments, including the transfer of international lawyers such as JP Wood, were an important means of growing the global network.

Mr Wood joined our London office in June 2013, having previously worked in the UK practice of our US combination partner Fulbright & Jaworski. Before that, he worked in-house for Novae Syndicates Limited (Lloyd’s of London), as well as law firms Barlow Lyde & Gilbert and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Mr Wood said he was relishing the opportunity to grow a strong disputes, regulatory and insurance team in Perth.

“My relocation to Perth responds strategically to our clients' need for dedicated local insurance expertise,” he said. “I am excited to be part of the national insurance practice in Australia and by the opportunity to strengthen our disputes and investigations teams."

Norton Rose Fulbright in Australia has added twelve new partners in the past year, including nine lateral appointments. The other lateral partners are Keira Brennan, Ray Giblett, Helene Lee, Adrienne Parker, Hazel Brasington, Dale Rayner, John Elliott and Global Head of our Energy practice Simon Currie (from Norton Rose Fulbright in London).
