Norton Rose Fulbright grows Perth office with respected corporate, resources and infrastructure hires

Australia Press release - People August 14, 2018

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright announced today that two new partners will be joining its Perth office, bolstering the national corporate and M&A team and adding a wealth of experience advising the energy, resources and infrastructure industries. The two partners will join later this year.

Paul Lingard

Mr Lingard will join in Perth from international law firm Clifford Chance, where he was managing partner of the Perth office and global co-head of the mining team. He has earned a strong reputation in the Australian market, having acted for Australian and multinational companies with domestic and international operations in the mining, power and oil and gas sectors. His skillset involves acting on complex M&A transactions, advising on operational issues and acting on large-scale development projects.

He has advised South32, FMG, BHP and BGC on mining projects across the country; Quadrant, ConocoPhillips and Eni on oil and gas project developments; and various government owned and private electricity companies in connection with the electricity industry, including the WA state government on the re-merger of Verve and Synergy.

Miriam D’Souza

Ms D’Souza will join the national corporate and M&A team in Perth from the projects team of international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills. Her experience includes extensive work advising on large infrastructure projects in the mining, social infrastructure, port, rail, water and waste sectors.

Her front-end projects capability in the public and private sectors will be a boon to the firm’s national projects offering. She has dealt with a variety of contract models in these sectors, including engineer, procure construct; engineer, procure and construction management; early contractor involvement; alliances; and managing contractor work.

Norton Rose Fulbright managing partner in Australia Wayne Spanner commented:

“Paul and Miriam’s appointments are part of a deliberate strategy. Miriam’s front-end projects capability nicely complements Paul’s broad practice across mining, power, and oil and gas, and we are sure that these two experienced practitioners will bring benefits to our existing and future clients in these sectors.

“Paul and Miriam will add experience to both our Perth office and the broader national corporate and M&A team. Their appointments highlight our continuing investment in a strong national energy and resources practice – combining our expertise in the mining and energy industries – as well as the ongoing growth of our project finance team in support of our infrastructure offering.”

These strategic appointments reflect the rationale for other recent additions to the Australian partnership. In the past year the firm has added corporate and M&A partners Gavin Scott, Natalie Lonergan, Jasmine Sprange, Martin Irwin, Adam Edelman and Shamim Razavi (from our Indonesian associate firm, TNB & Partners), who collectively have strong connections to the energy, resources and infrastructure industries.

In May, the firm grew its project finance capability with the appointment of new partner Chris Patten and the promotion of existing partner Jo Crew to the role of national head of the project finance practice.
