New York lawyer speaks on “The Blockchain Capital Markets Transformation” at the Futurist Blockchain Conference

Mina Matin (New York) represented global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright at the Futurist Blockchain Conference in Toronto, Canada, on August 15 and 16, 2018.

More than 2,300 participants from all over the globe in attended, and keynote speakers included the co-founders of Ethereum, Charles Hoskinson and Anthony Di Iorio; along with Larry King.

The conference’s objective was to discuss trends and the future of blockchain technology. Sessions focused primarily on special announcements regarding new tech start-ups, investments, partnerships, research and overall upcoming trends and predictions in the sector.

Ms. Matin spoke on a panel entitled, “The Blockchain Capital Markets Transformation.” Other speakers included Bermudian Minister, the Hon. Wayne Caines, the CEO of Quantex, the CEO of Digital Futures, the Global Chief AML officer for theBank of Montreal Financial Group and Loretta Joseph, a FinTech advisor with the Bermuda government.

The panelists discussed the impact of regulation in the crypto blockchain industry including crypto-friendly jurisdictions and their regulatory and legislative frameworks.

Ms. Matin spoke about the Bermudian economy and the Bermuda Government's recent ICO and digital asset business legislation. She also discussed proposed changes to the territory’s banking legislation and its insurtech sandbox and innovation hub, as Bermuda positions itself to become a global leader in the fintech and insurtech arenas.

Minister Caines said, “We want to change the world. What does it look like to get everyone in this word access to a bank account? We’re going to create a superhighway; it will be very well regulated.” 

Ms. Matin added, “Innovation is at the heart and spirit of Bermuda.”
