Ball sees project finance community raise over £20,000 for charity
22 September 2010
Last night saw the fourteenth annual Project Finance Ball held at Plaisterers' Hall, London. The event culminated in a charity auction for the Dyspraxia Foundation. Amongst the lots were a Rolling Stones signed gold disc and dancing lessons with Strictly Come Dancing’s Hanna Haarala.
The ball was organised and hosted by international law practice Norton Rose LLP and the International Project Finance Association (IPFA). It brought together more than 300 key players from the project finance industry, with the auction chaired by England cricketing legend Chris Cowdrey.
The most expensive lot of the night was an Epsom Derby Day for ten people, going for £4,000 after a fierce bidding war. In total, the night raised over £20,000 for the Dyspraxia Foundation, a national charity focussed on raising awareness of the condition which affects approximately 10% of the population.
The money raised means the Dyspraxia Foundation is able to continue running its telephone helpline to support those affected by the condition.
Jeffery Barratt, a partner and global head of projects at Norton Rose LLP, commented: “The success of the auction was incredibly pleasing. We’ve hosted this event for fourteen years now, and we always get a great response from the project finance community for the charitable part of the evening. Being able to support the Dyspraxia Foundation was particularly satisfying. It’s a massively misunderstood condition and one that impacts large numbers of families. I’m sure the funds we’ve raised tonight will be put to very good use.
“This has become a fixture in the project finance calendar. It’s rare the industry has an opportunity to come together on this sort of scale. It’s been a big year for project finance across the globe, with the reaction to the global economic downturn starting to take a clear shape and a number of key sectors and countries helping to drive the market forward.”
