International legal practice Norton Rose LLP has appointed structured finance specialist David Shearer as a partner in its London structured finance and capital markets practice. David was previously a partner in Allen & Overy’s structured finance group.

David acts for a number of major financial institutions and covers a broad range of structured finance and securitisation transactions, bond issuance, restructuring work and emerging markets.

Sandrine Sauvel, Head of Norton Rose LLP’s securitisation practice commented:

“David will be a great addition to the team. David brings experience of leading groundbreaking transactions and in depth knowledge of the structured finance markets. Our practice has been a great success in recent years, despite a difficult operating environment.

“David joins at a time when we are uniquely positioned to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities arising from our increased international client base both in our traditional sector strength areas, and in new geographic regions following our four recent mergers.  Having David as part of the team will give us added strength in depth and enhance our ability to take advantage of the growth opportunities in structured finance.”

David Shearer commented:

“Norton Rose is known for the strength of its banking practice and its structured capital markets team has been involved in a number of innovative transactions internationally, across an impressive range of asset classes and industries. It has an excellent structured capital markets platform with exciting opportunities for further growth. I’m looking forward to playing my role in that growth of the practice.”

David qualified as a lawyer in New Zealand in 1993 and in England and Wales in 1999. He has been a partner in Allen & Overy’s Capital Markets department for the past nine years.

The structured finance and capital markets team of Norton Rose LLP focuses on asset backed securities (ABS)  in Europe and the Middle East as well as structured bonds in the transport (shipping and aviation), infrastructure and energy, trade finance and insurance sectors. Recent transactions include acting  on two securitisations arranged by the National Bank of Greece worth a total of €2.35billion; advising MyLotto on a complex insurance linked securities issue; advising the Republic of Indonesia on its $1 billion international sukuk issuance and advising Bank of Ireland on highly structured repo transactions covering RMBS structures.
