Stanley Hartt joins Norton Rose as Counsel in Canada

International legal practice Norton Rose is pleased to announce that business and community leader, Stanley Hartt has joined our Toronto office as Counsel. He will provide strategic advice to domestic and international clients.

Stanley has had a distinguished career in business and government. Immediately prior to joining Norton Rose, Stanley was Chairman of Macquarie Capital Markets Canada Ltd. He practised law as a partner for 20 years, was Chairman of Citigroup Global Markets Canada and predecessor Salomon Smith Barney Canada (1996-2008). Stanley was Chairman, President and CEO of Campeau Corporation (1990-1996), Deputy Minister at the Canadian Department of Finance (1985 to 1988) and served as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister in the late 80s.

In his roles as a business leader, Stanley has worked for major Canadian corporate clients in sectors including financial institutions, technology and innovation (telecommunications), energy, transport and real estate. He specializes in M&A, investment banking, restructuring and insolvency, private equity and debt finance.

Stanley has a great deal of U.S. cross-border and international experience and was one of the eight Canadians in the room when the ‘Elements of the Canada–U.S. Free Trade Agreement’ was signed on October 3, 1988. He has extensive experience in income and consumption tax matters and is an Officer of the Order of Canada.
