Gilles Rancourt has vast experience in many areas of employment and labour law, including grievance arbitration, occupational health and safety matters, certification, collective agreement decrees, collective bargaining, employment standards, individual contracts of employment, human rights and freedoms, and restrictive covenants relating to employment. He successfully argued a case on the latter topic before the Supreme Court of Canada recently.

Mr. Rancourt frequently pleads before administrative tribunals with jurisdiction in labour law matters and before the civil courts, including the Quebec Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.

He is a frequent guest speaker on a variety of issues pertaining to employment law and human resource management and is a special contributor to the book Comment gérer un employé difficile, published by Les Éditions Transcontinental Inc., Collection Les Affaires. He also teaches collective bargaining and labour law at the Quebec Bar Admission Course.

Mr. Rancourt is Québec chair of our employment and labour law group.

    On May 9, 2018, in CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-De-l’Île-De-Montréal (CHSLD juif de Montréal) c Alliance du personnel professionnel et technique de la santé et des services sociaux (APTS), arbitrator Louise Doyon allowed the grievance of the Alliance du personnel professionnel et technique de la santé et des services sociaux (Union) claiming moral damages from the CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-De-l’Île-De-Montréal (Employer) for breach of the local collective agreement in respect of notices of assignment..
