Jeff Lewis is an intellectual property lawyer focusing on patent litigation in our New York office.

A trained chemical engineer and registered patent attorney, Jeff concentrates on patent litigation and also handles trademark matters, as well as other intellectual property and general litigation. Jeff represents both plaintiffs and defendants in a range of technology-related sectors but focuses primarily on pharmaceuticals, chemicals, biotechnology and life sciences; he has represented pharmaceutical innovators in numerous Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) patent litigations.

Lewis has litigated more than 30 cases before the US Federal District Courts, and has argued numerous appeals before the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Jeff has provided counsel to and appeared for AIPLA and other amicus curiae in numerous cases before the Supreme Court of the United States. Specifically, Jeff was Counsel of Record for AIPLA as amicus curiae before the Supreme Court of the United States in Limelight Networks, Inc. v. Akamai Technologies, Inc. concerning infringement when multiple parties are responsible, Quanta Computer, Inc. v. LG Electronics, Inc. considering the patent exhaustion doctrine, and KSR Int'l Co. v. Teleflex Inc. on infringement under the doctrine of equivalents, and has appeared for AIPLA in both the Supreme Court and Federal Circuit on many other cases including the seminal en banc Federal Circuit case on patent opinions of counsel, Knorr-Bremse Systeme Fuer Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH v. Dana Corp.

Jeff is admitted to practice before the US Supreme Court; US Patent and Trademark Office; United States Court of Federal Claims; US Courts of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Third Circuit and Federal Circuit; US District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, and Northern Districts of New York; the District of Connecticut;  and the Northern District of Illinois.

    In law school, Jeffrey was active in student government and P.A.D., and was an Alexander Judicial Fellow to Judge Marion T. Bennett, U.S. Court of Appeals for Federal Circuit.

    During undergraduate, Jeffrey was involved with student government, was the Student Ombudsman and active in Delta Chi and WHUS.

Preparation of opinions concerning patentability, validity, enforceability and infringement.
    • Patent, Trademark and Copyright Licensing, Transfers and Collateralization - Representation of transferors, transferees and lenders concerning intellectual property transfers, sales and licenses, and related review of intellectual property portfolios including preparation of opinions concerning validity, enforceability, title and encumbrances.
    • Trademark, Trade Dress and Copyright Litigation, Counseling and Prosecution - Prosecution and defense of infringement, opposition and cancellation proceedings before the courts and the Patent & Trademark Office for pharmaceutical, chemical, manufacturing, cosmetic, garment and financial concerns. Preparation of opinions concerning availability, registrability and infringement.
