Joe Bricker is developing a broad practice in all areas of business law, including corporate finance and securities, mergers and acquisitions, and special situations.
Mr. Bricker joined our office as a summer student in 2015. He returned as an articling student in 2015 and 2016. While articling, Mr. Bricker completed a secondment at GlaxoSmithKline, where he worked on a variety of commercial and intellectual property matters.
In law school, Mr. Bricker won the Gale Cup Moot, arguing in the final; was on the winning team at the 2015 Commonwealth Moot in Glasgow, Scotland; and mooted in the University of Toronto's Grand Moot. He volunteered for the University of Toronto's legal clinic, Downtown Legal Services. He also won the Osgoode Society Legal History Book Prize.
Before attending law school at the University of Toronto, Mr. Bricker gained experience working in federal and provincial politics, holding internships in the Office of the Prime Minister and the Office of the Leader of the Opposition (Ontario).

Mr. Bricker has acted for the following clients:
- The board of directors of Agrium Inc. in connection with Agrium's US$36 billion merger of equals transaction with Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc.
- Brookfield Business Partners L.P. in the acquisition of Loblaw Companies Limited's gas station operations for a purchase price of approximately C$540 million
Key takeaways: expect to see an increased use of hard lock-ups (that is, lock-ups in which a shareholder agrees to tender shares even if a superior bid comes along), which will provide bidders with reduced risk during the new 105-day bid period .
