Marie Kelly is a dispute resolution lawyer based in our Athens office and heads the dispute resolution practice.
Marie’s specialist area is shipping litigation and shipping contracts including shipbuilding contracts. Marie also has a great deal of experience in commercial litigation in the high court and in arbitration and has worked on a number of cases involving proceedings in more than one jurisdiction.
Marie has been involved in wide range of shipping disputes in arbitration and the English High Court. Her experience in shipping includes charterparty and MOA disputes, shipbuilding disputes and drafting dry-docking contracts, non-standard charters, and conversion contracts. Recently she successfully brought a pre-delivery claim based on design and other defects for a major Greek shipowner against a Korean shipyard as a result of which the shipyard was forced to do substantial works on that vessel and a number of her sisterships which the shipyard was also building.
On the commercial litigation side Marie has conducted multi-national litigation for one of the major Greek ship owning families arising out of an estate dispute. She has also advised on and conducted litigation in respect of distribution and licensing agreements.
In Chambers and Partners 2008, Marie is praised for her "responsiveness, diligence and sound judgement".
Marie has spoken at and written papers for a number of seminars. She is a qualified mediator.
