Marie Kelly is a dispute resolution lawyer based in London.
Marie is a skilled litigator who handles high-value contractual disputes. Marie focuses on shipping litigation and shipping contracts including shipbuilding contracts. She also has a great deal of experience in commercial litigation in the English High Court and in international arbitration and has managed a number of cases involving proceedings in more than one jurisdiction.
Marie regularly acts for Owners and P & I Clubs on issues relating to charter party, MOA and shipbuilding disputes. She has also has a great deal of experience of shipbuilding contract negotiations, and drafting dry-docking contracts, non-standard charters, and conversion contracts. Her additional experience in wet shipping was showcased in advice to Empire Bulkers on the collision of its vessel Eleni with Heung A Dragon off the coast of Vietnam and the subsequent limitation proceedings in Hong Kong and the Marshall Islands.
On the international arbitration side, Marie has recently been successful in an international arbitration (ad hoc on UNCITRAL rules) involving a dispute in the money transfer sector.
Until 2017, Marie was based in our Athens office and previously headed the Athens dispute resolution practice. Marie is ranked band 1 in Chambers & Partners 2017 for Greece, Shipping (International firms), noting: "She has a good reputation for being commercial and accurate" and is a leading person in the Legal 500. Marie has spoken at and written papers for a number of seminars. She is a qualified mediator.
