Huw Evans is an intellectual property lawyer based in London. He has advised clients for over 20 years on the full range of intellectual property rights including patents, design rights, copyright, database rights, trade marks, brands and trade secrets.

Huw has acted for clients on both the enforcement and defence of infringement claims at all jurisdictional levels, including High Court, Court of Appeal, European Court of Justice and the Patents County Court as well as the trade mark registries at UK IPO and OHIM. Much of his work has focussed on cross-border disputes relating to patents rights across industry sectors including mechanical and software, telecommunications, MPEG, ink jet printing, oil and energy, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and food.

Huw joined us in 2013. His practice includes acting on patent enforcement/defence work in the life sciences sector - for example, at his previous firm he acted in high profile cases such as the Pfizer v Teva litigation (Atorvastatin) and MedImmune v Novartis (Ranibizumab). Additionally, his current practice includes advising major telecoms companies on their patent positioning strategies in Europe. Aside from patents, Huw has extensive experience in relation to trade secrets having worked on a number of trade secrets cases which in recent times tend to be more predominant in the financial services sector. Huw also advises on a range of brands and copyright disputes.

Huw’s practice also includes helping clients manage risk and arriving at solutions that do not necessarily involve the Courts. He has extensive experience in providing freedom to operate advice and working with clients with the launch of new products in crowded IP fields both from the brands and patents perspective.

Huw is an associate member of the chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and has for a number of years worked closely with other industry body groups helping to consult on legal developments and counsel on policy positions. Huw is recognised by Legal 500 UK 2012 and ranked by Chambers 2012 and IAM 1000, who describe him as “amazing with clients and shows his dedication with genuine 24-hour availability”. Legal 500 UK 2013 cites that Huw ‘brings a diverse range of experience to the practice’.
