Shale and hydraulic fracturing

We support our clients in the dramatic expansion of  shale gas production. With offices near every major US shale play, our energy team is poised to provide strong, strategic advice focused on our clients’ needs.

Our diverse, rich experience spans the industry segments and practice areas most relevant to shale development, including exploration and production and environmental law.

Norton Rose Fulbright maintains an up-to-date hydraulic fracturing blog. The first of its kind, this blog focuses on the legal, regulatory and significant developments that directly affect our clients involved in fracking. For the latest information, please visit our hydraulic fracturing blog.

Our recent shale and hydraulic fracturing work:

  • Represented Petro-Hunt, LLC in the sale to Halcón Resources Corporation of oil and gas assets in the Williston Basin in North Dakota for an aggregate purchase price of US $1.45 billion, consisting of US $700 million in cash and US $750 million in equity.
  • Represented a major independent E&P company based in the US in a series of transactions involving the disposition of oil and gas exploration and producing properties located in various regions throughout the US, including the Mid-Continent, Austin Chalk, Haynesville Shale and Rockies for an approximate aggregate consideration of $5.8 billion.
  • Represented Magnum Hunter Resources Corporation in a transaction involving the sale of Eagle Ford Hunter, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary, to Penn Virginia Oil & Gas Corporation, which owned, among other things, approximately 7,000 net mineral acres of developed and undeveloped properties in the Eagle Ford shale in Fayette, Lee and Atascosa counties, Texas.
