Sumera Khan is a senior associate in the Houston office where her practice focuses on eDiscovery and information governance and commercial litigation. She has counseled clients in the energy, healthcare, insurance, and pharmaceutical industries on issues arising from antitrust litigation and disputes as well as requests for compliance advice.
For three months in 2015 and then again for the same client for several weeks in 2018, Sumera was seconded to the corporate office of a leading specialty insurer with domestic and international reach. During her secondment, Sumera managed litigation related to insurance claims as well as advised the business on everyday activities and decisions, including employment matters and settlement of pending litigation.
Sumera has a diverse practice, which includes deep devotion to representation of clients on a pro bono basis. This work has given her substantial trial and appellate experience, including oral argument to the Fourteenth Court of Appeals and briefing to the Supreme Court of the United States, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and Texas Criminal Court of Appeals.

At the University of Houston Law Center, Sumera was the articles editor of the Houston Journal of International Law and the president of the Muslim Law Students Association. She also received the Adams & Reese Award for Best Paper in International Law, the Law Center's Distinguished Service Award, and the LEX Award for Legal Analysis, Research, and Communication I with the highest grade.
During law school, Sumera participated in the Law Center's Civil Clinic program for one year where she assisted, pro bono, numerous families in child custody, modification, divorce, and adoption cases.
Sumera is admitted to practice law in the state of Texas. She is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas.
