Biography

Hoda Solaymani-Jamal is a restructuring and insolvency lawyer based in Melbourne.

Hoda focuses on corporate restructuring and insolvency matters, including advising and acting for insolvency practitioners and financial institutions in relation to secured and unsecured debt recoveries and securities enforcement as well as providing advice on cross jurisdictional corporate wind downs and restructures, with a particular focus on risk. 

Hoda also has significant litigation experience in insolvency, regulatory, banking and general commercial matters, including commencing and defending proceedings under the Corporations Act 2001 and defending claims made against banks (including claims under the Banking Code of Practice).  

Hoda's experience spans a range of industries including automotive, construction, resources, franchising, property development and managed investment schemes.

  • Major bank in its capacity as the finance trustee of a syndicated debt facility ($650m+) - on a major infrastructure project operated by Basslink, including in respect litigation brought by the receivers appointed to Basslink against key stakeholders in its operations (including the Tasmanian State Government), in order to establish a pathway to restructure the Basslink business.
  • McGrath Nicol - advising the receivers and managers appointed to ABD Group, a high and medium rise Melbourne-based builder and its subsidiaries  
  • Deloitte - advising the liquidators appointed to Merlin Diamonds (on the application of ASIC), a former ASX listed mining enterprise, in respect of all aspects of the liquidation and the sale of the Merlin diamond mine.
  • Deloitte - in relation to the successful turnaround strategy of Tiwi Plantation Corporation Pty Ltd, the largest indigenous organisation in northern Australia that supplies hardwood chips to the paper pulp industry in Japan and China.
  • KPMG - advising the receivers and managers of Dick Smith Holdings Ltd.
  • PwC - in respect of the administration of HRL Limited and 20 of its subsidiaries, in particular in relation to the remediation of the Hazelwood Power Station.
  • BDO Australia Limited - advising the liquidators appointed to REIT (on the application of ASIC), a land banking scheme involving Islamic Finance.
  • BDO Australia Limited - the liquidators appointed to Atlas Gaming Company, including in relation to the cross jurisdictional negotiations and sale of the gaming business.
  • KordaMentha - the liquidators appointed to Actco-Pickering Metal Industries, in particular in respect of insolvent trading and preference claims under the Corporations Act 20o1 (Cth).
  • Cor Cordis - advising the administrators appointed to Acquire Learning, an education broker operating in the vocation education sector.
