We are delighted to present our Maritime decarbonisation series, “The Long Road to Net Zero.” for 2025. This series will address the key challenges facing the shipping sector as it strives for net zero, including an exploration of the legal and regulatory issues involved.
The first of the topics covered in our series are outlined below, these are however subject to change to reflect developments in the rapidly evolving sector.

16 January 2025 | Shipping's inclusion in the EU ETS

As of January 2024, European shipping and vessels calling at EU ports are subject to the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). The shipping industry is currently assessing the impact of the EU ETS on vessel ownership and operations. This session will explore the implications of the scheme and practical considerations for the industry to navigate the EU ETS and address the effects of FuelEU Maritime.
27 February 2025 | Access to sustainable finance: helping shipping to transition

This session provides an overview of the different sustainable finance products available to the shipping industry, including green bonds, and discusses some of trends we are seeing.
19 March 2025 | Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS): the regulatory and financial impact of integrating shipping into CCS projects

This session explores the role that shipping can play in carbon capture, the likely challenges that need to be overcome in relation to cross-border shipping of carbon, along with observations from recent projects.
3 April 2025 | AI – will this help with shipping’s greener future?

This session will explore the use of AI in the maritime sector and how it can help the sector to reach the decarbonisation objectives set.
6 May 2025 | Carbon Capture and Storage: financing on board carbon

As pressure grows at supra-national, national and regional levels for shipping to decarbonise rapidly, onboard carbon capture is starting to be seen as a meaningful, and long lasting, solution to help reduce vessel emissions. In this session we explore the different options for financing on-board carbon capture systems.
