Fundraising for Special Olympics launches with Canadian Canoe Challenge

Global Firm September 2015

Global legal practice Norton Rose Fulbright is delighted to announce the launch of its 2015-16 fund-raising challenge with Special Olympics. The launch will see Norton Rose Fulbright host the Great Canadian Canoe Challenge from September 18-20, 2015.

Over a hundred Norton Rose Fulbright partners and employees from over 20 offices in more than 10 countries will take part in the Great Canadian Canoe Challenge that will take place at Arrowhead Camp, located on the shore of the Muskoka Lake of Bays, between Algonquin Park and Huntsville. Canoeists will be paddling for five hours a day, in two-person open canoes over a two-day period, exploring the lakes and rivers of this spectacular landscape.

Peter Martyr, global chief executive, commented: “We are delighted to support Special Olympics and over the next 12 months, Norton Rose Fulbright aims to raise $250,000 through a series of global fundraising events and initiatives. Since 2012, our global charitable initiatives have focused on addressing disability, diversity and inclusion issues and as part of this we are keen to continue to support this fantastic sporting organisation. The Great Canadian Canoe Challenge will get us off to a tremendous start.”

Janet Froetscher, CEO of Special Olympics International said, “We are pleased to be working with Norton Rose Fulbright and warmly welcome their thousands of employees to our movement. Together we can further spread our powerful message of inclusion, respect and acceptance around the world. It is this attitude to global citizenship that strengthens Norton Rose Fulbright’s culture, promoting integration and reinforces their business principles.”

With 4.4 million athletes in 170 countries, Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organisation for people with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics provides year-round training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports, giving children and adults opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, learn skills, make friends, and have fun with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
