Biography
Hannah Meakin is a financial services regulation lawyer based in London. She has a particular focus on market infrastructure, commodities derivatives and Fintech and crypto regulation.
She advises on all aspects of compliance with relevant PRA and FCA requirements but has particular experience in brokerage, exchange trading, clearing, settlement, custody, client money and wholesale conduct. Hannah helps clients understand and implement financial services legislation, including the UK versions of MiFID II, EMIR, MAR, REMIT, BMR and IFPR and has led client projects on each of these.
Hannah's clients include both financial institutions and unregulated entities such as the trading and treasury teams of corporates. She also supports a number of industry bodies.
Hannah is a member of the FCA's Markets Practitioner Panel, which acts a critical friend towards the FCA to ensure that its regulation is targeted, proportionate and effective and to maintain London's position as a competitive international financial centre. In this capacity, Hannah regularly discusses key areas of UK regulatory policy with those designing and responsible for implementing it.
Hannah is also a member of the City of London Regulatory Law Committee, which regularly submits responses to papers from law and regulation making bodies where there is a need to challenge or clarify a legal matter.
Hannah also co-heads the firm's FinTech regulatory practice and is particularly active on the evolving regulation of digital assets and artificial intelligence. Hannah has been selected as an Ambassador for the Global Blockchain Business Council for the third consecutive year and is also a member of its Organising Committee.
