Vancouver assists Interior Health Authority on Cariboo Memorial Hospital redevelopment

Canada | October 08, 2020

Client: Interior Health Authority

Our Vancouver office is acting as counsel to the Interior Health Authority on the procurement, design and construction of a C$147m expansion to the existing Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake, British Columbia. The Cariboo Memorial Hospital serves the population living in Williams Lake and in adjacent rural and remote areas including the Cariboo Chilcotin and 100 Mile House local health areas.

The project is expected to improve the level of care provided to citizens in the region, increase services offered and attract and retain healthcare workers. Features of the redevelopment include a larger emergency department, more room for ambulatory care, a mental health and substance use inpatient unit, a maternal services unit, University of British Columbia faculty of medicine space, 54 new parking spots and the addition of 15 new beds with space reserved to open more in the future.

Construction will be completed in two phases. Phase one will begin in 2021 with work on the new addition and is expected to finish in 2023. Then Phase two will begin on renovations to the current hospital, which is scheduled to be complete in 2025.

The team includes Keith Bustard, Jenya Hammond and Emily Campbell.
