Biography

Robin Longe is a natural resources lawyer who regularly advises clients in the mining and forestry sectors, including First Nations development corporations, on various aspects of corporate and commercial law. Mr. Longe is a part of the teams at the firm that work with Boliden AB, Rio Tinto Alcan, Western Forest Products and Tolko Industries, in addition to many others.

Mr. Longe has extensive experience in all aspects of corporate transactions, including the purchase and sale of timber and mining rights, sawmills, pulpmills, mines, and related equipment and infrastructure. 

In addition to transactional work, Mr. Longe has assisted numerous clients on other corporate and commercial matters. Mr. Longe has extensive experience negotiating arrangements with and for First Nations in British Columbia, including over impact and benefit agreements and negotiation protocols, and regularly advises on agreements specific to the mining and forestry sectors, such as logging contracts, mining option agreements, joint ventures, and limited partnership arrangements.

Mr. Longe has acted in the following matters:

  • Represented Western Forest Products in its sale of Tree Farm Licence 61 on Vancouver Island and TFL 60 on Haida Gwaii
  • Counsel to Weyerhaeuser Canada in its sale to West Fraser Mills Ltd. and Interfor of more than 950,000 m3 of Crown land forest tenures in the BC interior
  • Counsel to Boliden Limited in the optioning of its Premier Gold deposit near Stewart, BC
  • Advised a First Nations development corporation in structuring and negotiating a limited partnership associated with a hotel and marina development
  • Advised a First Nation in negotiations concerning the development of a renewable energy project within its traditional territory
  • Advising Gorman Bros. Lumber in its acquisition of Federated Cooperatives sawmill, plywood plants and 320,000 cubic metres of Crown timber harvesting rights
  • Advised a First Nation in developing and implementing of a new regulatory regime for mineral exploration and development within its traditional territory
