Norton Rose Fulbright advises SUSI Partners on the establishment of a renewable energy platform in Poland

Germany Press release - Business January 2022

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised Swiss fund manager SUSI Partners on the establishment of a renewable energy platform in Poland. Established in collaboration with local energy service provider Luneos, the Luneos Green Energy (LGE) platform will build a diversified portfolio of wind and solar assets to transform Poland's coal-dominated electricity market and serve the country's growing demand for electricity with clean energy.

The LGE platform was established in 2021 through the Energy Transition Fund (SETF), which invests in sustainable energy infrastructure in OECD countries. LGE will build onshore wind and solar photovoltaic plants and can take advantage of favorable wind and solar energy costs at a time of rising coal prices.

SUSI and Luneos are experienced in the renewable energy sector and have been working together in Poland since 2018.

Klaus Bader, Partner and Head of the European Energy Team, who led on the deal, commented:

“With 80 per cent of electricity in Poland still being produced from coal, rising coal prices and the growing energy demand, there is a need to seek and expand alternative forms of energy. The ambitious targets set by the Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment are likely to accelerate this trend.”

Founded in 2009, SUSI Partners is a Swiss-based fund manager specialized in sustainable energy infrastructure investments with EUR 1.6bn in capital commitments from institutional investors. The firm’s investment strategy focuses on private equity and credit opportunities across the energy transition spectrum, including clean energy generation, energy efficiency measures, and energy storage and integrated solutions. With a successful track record of more than 120 transactions in over 20 countries to date, SUSI Partners seeks to achieve attractive risk-adjusted returns for its clients and their beneficiaries while contributing meaningfully to achieving global carbon neutrality.

The Norton Rose Fulbright team advising SUSI Partners also included Counsel Tomasz Rogalski (Renewables, Power and utilities, Energy, Warsaw) and Artur Jonczyk (Energy, Warsaw) as well as Senior Associates Rima Dressler (Corporate M&A, Munich) and Cezary Zawislak (Renewables, Power and utilities, Energy, Warsaw).
