Biography

Hannah Meakin is a financial services regulation lawyer based in London. Her practice focuses on market infrastructure, commodities derivatives and FinTech.

She advises on all aspects of compliance with relevant PRA and FCA requirements and has particular knowledge of brokerage, exchange trading, clearing, settlement, custody, client money and wholesale conduct. Hannah helps clients understand and implement financial services legislation, including MiFID II, MAR, EMIR and the CRR, and has led client projects on each of these.

Hannah's clients include both financial institutions and unregulated entities such as the trading and treasury teams of corporates. She also supports a number of industry bodies.

Much of Hannah's work has involved working with different parts of the industry, including CME Group, FIA Europe, banks, brokers, energy companies and other end users.

Hannah leads the firm's work on MiFID II, including our seminars, webinars and briefing notes. She is the author of the commodities derivatives chapter in A Practitioners Guide to MiFID II, regularly speaks at industry seminars and provides technical input for specialist publications.

Hannah also co-heads the firm's FinTech regulatory practice. She has developed particular knowledge of blockchain, Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), ICOs and cryptocurrencies, and advises on the regulatory issues related to the deployment of these technologies. She works with FinTech start-ups, global financial institutions, and industry consortia on high-profile FinTech related matters.

Hannah is currently serving as a UK ambassador to the Global Blockchain Business Council, the leading industry association for the blockchain technology ecosystem.
