Matthew Escritt is a banking and finance lawyer based in Dubai.
Matthew specialises in all areas of structured cross-border finance, including acquisition finance, real estate finance, project finance, vendor finance, structured trade and commodity finance and export finance. Matthew advises sponsors, lenders, multilaterals and export credit agencies in a number of sectors, with a particular emphasis on infrastructure, mining and commodities, real estate and telecoms.
Significant deals include advising Emaar Malls Group LLC and Emaar Properties PJSC on the US$1billion Shariah-compliant syndicated financing secured over the Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping and entertainment complex located in downtown Dubai. Matthew also advised a syndicate of fourteen banks regarding a senior unsecured US$900 million syndicated facility for First Gulf Bank PJSC. The facility was the largest loan market transaction undertaken by a financial institution in the UAE in 2012.
Matthew also acts on debt restructurings, including advising Indonesia’s PT Arpeni Pratama Ocean Line Tbk (Arpeni) on its US$700 million debt restructuring and is currently advising the lenders in connection with a major debt restructuring in the UAE.
Matthew has extensive experience working in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East, having previously worked in our offices in London, Moscow, Bahrain and Singapore.
Matthew has been based in Dubai since 2011.
