Power Finance & Risk names Norton Rose Fulbright Renewable Energy Law Firm of the Year

Global Press release - Business September 9, 2020

Norton Rose Fulbright received the Renewable Energy Law Firm of the Year award by Power Finance & Risk (PFR), as the publication announced its 17th annual Deal of the Year awards on September 8, 2020.

The global law firm's truly global renewables team provides the full spectrum of legal services in the renewable energy sector. It is recognized for its involvement in pioneering first-in-jurisdiction and first-in-technology renewable energy projects around the world. More than 70 percent of the transactions on which our projects team advised in 2019 involved the renewable energy sector.

"(Norton Rose Fulbright) is 'super useful' when 'pushing the bounds' on contractual structures," noted a project finance borrower on PFR's judging panel. "They have been all over the cutting edge of things moving in the market," a project finance banker concurred, adding that "they're now the go-to firm for offshore wind. The firm's success is attributed to its deep bench of dedicated, smart attorneys."

PFR – a weekly and online industry publication that provides news, analysis and informed perspectives on financing and M&A in the power industry in the Americas – also honored the firm with the 2019 District Energy Deal of the Year for its work with Innovate Energy.

Led by John Naccarato (Ottawa), Norton Rose Fulbright advised Canada's Department of Justice and provided transaction support services to Public Services and Procurement Canada for the C$1.03 billion Energy Services Acquisition Program's (ESAP) Energy Service Modernization (ESM) P3 project. The project contributes to the Canadian government's commitment to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from its operations by 40 percent by 2030.

The winning firms, individuals and deals were selected based on the publication's in-depth interviews with a judging panel comprising senior market participants from across project development, banking, law and investing. The PFR editorial team combined the judges' feedback with PFR's reporting and data to determine the award recipients.

Our team was the 2019 leading renewable energy legal advisor in the US by volume with 37 deals and 45 percent more than the nearest competitor (Inframation News, 2020). With an average of 80 deals valued at more than US$18 billion in both the IJ Global and Inframation News league tables, our team was ranked as the leading global renewable energy legal advisor, by volume, in 2019.

Earlier this year, Norton Rose Fulbright received Global Legal Adviser of the Year, North America Legal Adviser of the Year and Asia Pacific Legal Adviser of the Year accolades at the 2019 IJGlobal Awards.
