Norton Rose Fulbright promotes five lawyers to partner in Australia

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright announced today that Ka-Chi Cheung, Helen Macpherson, Deanne Ogilvie, Jonathon Turner and Bernie Walrut will be promoted to partner from January 1, 2020.

The five lawyers advise in the areas of banking and finance, corporate, dispute resolution, insolvency, intellectual property, real estate and technology.

Ka-Chi Cheung

Ka-Chi is a corporate and commercial lawyer based in Melbourne with a focus on commercial procurement and technology projects. His experience acting for both suppliers and customers, and across public and private sectors, has given him a clear understanding of the key issues that affect the different stakeholders in these projects. With a computer science degree from the University of Melbourne, Ka-Chi possesses the rare ability to traverse commercial, legal and technical issues with ease and to provide advice that is commercial and practical.

Helen Macpherson

Helen is an intellectual property lawyer based in Sydney. She has over 15 years' experience as an IP disputes specialist, and is a trusted advisor to clients on all types of IP, including patents, trade marks, copyright, moral rights and confidential information. Helen has a particularly strong reputation and track record in relation to patent disputes, including high-value complex multijurisdictional patent disputes in relation to patents for complex technologies. Helen's current and past clients operate in a range of sectors including the pharmaceutical, life sciences, telecommunications, consumer goods, manufacturing, mining, finance, media and advertising sectors.

Deanne Ogilvie

Deanne is a real estate lawyer based in Sydney who has advised and acted on a variety of real estate law matters in numerous Australian jurisdictions. She has a particular focus on infrastructure, transport and major projects as well as extensive experience in capital transactions, government procurement, leasing, due diligence and risk analysis, project management and joint ventures arrangements, and property development including structuring complex tenure and management regimes for mixed use projects. Her recent work includes advising on major logistics infrastructure and transport projects including the structuring and acquisition of land tenure rights and joint venture arrangements for transport infrastructure.

Jonathon Turner

Jonathon is a contentious insolvency and restructuring lawyer based in Sydney, having previously practiced in London. His practice focuses on the financial institution sector. Jonathon specialises in cross-border and contentious insolvency, restructuring and commercial disputes. He advises a range of domestic and international clients including leading financial institutions, insolvency practitioners, corporates and directors on a wide variety of contentious and non-contentious matters. Jonathon is dual-qualified, having been admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales and having acted for clients in complex litigation in superior courts in a number of international jurisdictions.

Bernie Walrut

Bernie is a banking and insolvency lawyer based in Sydney. He has significant experience in advising financial institutions, funds, private equity groups, receivers, administrators and liquidators in complex restructuring and insolvency matters. Bernie has particular experience in advising both private equity funds on the acquisition, restructure and sale of portfolio companies and special situations funds on distressed investments. He has advised on a number of the most significant restructuring and insolvency related matters in Australia.
