Timothy Chan is an insurance lawyer based in Sydney.

Tim advises on corporate, regulatory and contentious legal matters in the insurance sector. He is a recommended lawyer in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific (2022-2025) with clients commenting he is "commercially practical and very knowledgeable in the area of insurance" and that they "rely on and fully trust Tim...he is a crucial part of ensuring the business addresses its legal risks".  An active member of the InsurTech ecosystem, Tim is also the winner of the Insurance Business Five Star Innovator Awards (2022-2023).

Tim has vast experience advising insurers, brokers, banks, InsurTechs and Lloyd's market participants on distribution, alternative risk transfer structures, transactions and insurance & reinsurance coverage disputes.  Tim has been involved in some of Australia's largest litigated insurance claims and regularly contributes thought leadership on insurance law in the Australian Insurance Law Bulletin, the Insurance Law Journal and the ANZIIF Journal. 

Tim has a keen interest in the intersection of emerging technologies and insurance law, in particular Artificial Intelligence and Crypto, and regularly presents at conferences on these topics. He is also a sessional lecturer for The Digital Insurer Academy on the topic of InsurTech Law. Tim is known for his active involvement in the insurance ecosystem and his ability to quickly understand clients' objectives in order to develop commercial strategies and solutions. 

Tim is an ANZIIF Certified Insurance Professional (CIP) and is a member of the Australian Insurance Law Association (TechHub Committee Member), Australian Professional Indemnity Group (Committee Member), NSW Claims Discussion Group and Reinsurance Discussion Group. Tim is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of NSW, the Federal Courts and the High Court of Australia.
