Norton Rose Fulbright advises Africa Finance Corporation on $150 million loan

Global Press release - Business July 2025

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) on a $150 million corporate loan to Aksa Enerji Üretim A.Ş., (AKSA Energy).

AFC is an investment grade multilateral financial institution with the primary mission to bridge Africa’s infrastructure investment gap by providing pragmatic financial solutions to the continent’s infrastructure and industrial development challenges. AKSA Energy plays a critical role in strengthening the region's energy infrastructure and ensuring energy supply security through its power plant projects implemented across Africa.

The $150 million corporate loan reflects deepening economic ties between Africa and Türkiye and paves the way for AKSA Energy’s new investments in Africa. The funding facility will be used to support the development, procurement and construction of multiple greenfield and brownfield combined cycle gas projects in Senegal, Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire.

The cross-border Norton Rose Fulbright team was led by London-based partner Jessica Melville, supported by associate Emmanuel Alabi (London) and legal consultant Ezgi Alkim (Istanbul).

Jessica Melville commented:

"We are proud to have advised on this landmark transaction between Africa Finance Corporation and AKSA Energy. This deal not only supports critical energy infrastructure across Africa but also marks the growing strategic partnership between Africa and Türkiye and the opportunities for further cross-border cooperation."

Utku Ünver and Ayca Gümüşay of Pekin Bayar Mizrahi, an alliance firm of Norton Rose Fulbright, advised in relation to Turkish law. Rachel Dagadu and Paa Kwesi Morrison of ENSafrica Ghana advised in relation to Ghanian legal matters.
