Please join Norton Rose Fulbright, Making Finance Work for Africa (MFW4A) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) for a webinar on the state of bank recovery and resolution laws in Africa.

This webinar will be focused on EIB's latest publication "Banking in Africa: Delivering on Financial Inclusion, Supporting Financial Stability".

The eponymous chapter of EIB's flagship publication reinforces the importance of improving the legal and regulatory framework of African financial sectors to promote financial intermediation.

Last year, working with offices and correspondent law firms across Africa, we undertook a review concerning the state of recovery and resolution laws for banks in select African jurisdictions against the 12 "Financial Stability Board Key Attributes". The review included coverage of 17 African countries.

Among several other results, the review finds that recovery and resolution regimes across Africa vary widely when compared against the "Key Attributes" and that banks are not generally required to prepare recovery and resolution plans.

This webinar will discuss the review findings as well as specific recommendations and outcomes highlighted in EIB’s annual publication. It will also engage the audience by exploring how strengthening the banking framework will have beneficial effects on funding costs.
