Norton Rose Fulbright expands global dispute resolution team with key partner hire in Germany

Press release - People December 11, 2018

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright today announces that Dr Alexander Cappel has joined the firm as a dispute resolution partner in its Frankfurt office.

Alexander joins the firm from Clifford Chance in Frankfurt. He advises corporate and individual clients in all areas of investigations, compliance and white collar crime. Alexander has a particular focus on internal investigations, financial sanctions, export controls and anti-money laundering matters. He advises clients across all sectors, with extensive experience in matters involving financial institutions. Alexander is also the head of the working group for sanctions and export controls at the German Institute for Compliance.

Peter Scott, Norton Rose Fulbright head of dispute resolution and litigation for Europe, Middle East and Asia, commented: “Clients face an increasingly complex array of civil, criminal and regulatory risks, both domestically and internationally. Increased regulatory scrutiny, geopolitical volatility and a focus on individual accountability create a challenging environment for businesses and senior executives alike. It’s vital that we continue to deepen our investigations and wider dispute resolution practice to meet clients’ evolving needs across all major jurisdictions. Alexander will be a tremendous asset to our team in Germany and internationally.”

Norton Rose Fulbright partner and head of Germany Ralf Springer commented: “Many global financial institutions and industrial companies have their headquarters or significant operations in Germany and from our German offices we provide a full business law service to our clients. Having a strong dispute resolution practice is fundamental to our offering and Alexander brings with him market-leading domestic and cross-border litigation and investigations experience.”

Norton Rose Fulbright’s German head of dispute resolution Jamie Nowak commented: “We are pleased to welcome Alexander Cappel to our team. With his experience in commercial criminal law we are able to add an increasingly important component to our compliance practice. The practice has seen rapid growth in recent years. Regulation is becoming more robust and administrative investigations and sanctions are more rigorous. We therefore expect this practice area to only grow.”

Alexander commented: “Norton Rose Fulbright has one of the largest dispute resolution practices in the world, with particular strength in Germany and across Europe. The firm has an outstanding reputation in advising on high-profile, cross-border matters across key industry sectors. This is an ideal platform from which to expand my practice and I look forward to working with the team.”

The Norton Rose Fulbright global dispute resolution and litigation team advises corporates, financial institutions and senior executives on complex, high-value and sensitive multijurisdictional disputes, investigations, and regulatory and compliance issues.

The firm was named “Investigations Team of the Year” at the both the Transatlantic Legal Awards and the British Legal Awards this year.
