Norton Rose Fulbright strengthens Greek energy team

Greece Press release - Business February 2021

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has strengthened its Greek energy practice with the addition of two new lawyers.

The firm welcomes Vaia Karathodorou, an energy and competition lawyer. Vaia practises in public and corporate law, and has fifteen years’ experience advising on various energy and sector regulatory matters regarding electricity, oil and gas, plus experience in the development and financing of energy projects, across project finance, public procurement issues and public private partnerships.

Vaia has served as legal advisor of the Greek Minister of Environment and Energy, consultant of the World Bank, Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs of the Hellenic Energy Exchange S.A. and the Energy Clearing House S.A, Legal Counsel of ADMIE (IPTO) Holding S.A, and presently as Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs of the Regional Security Coordinator (RSC).

Vicky Zampaza also joins the team. Vicky focuses on public law, with extended experience and in-depth knowledge of planning, environmental and energy law. Formerly a partner at an Athens-based boutique law firm, Vicky has represented major Greek renewable energy companies, the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator, and provided advice to local authorities regarding the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline. Vicky also served as Legal Adviser on the Committee of Experts of the Hellenic Association of Electricity Producers from RES (Hellasres), and provided legal support to the Hellenic Association of Independent Power Producers (HAIPP) on planning and environmental licensing issues.

Vaia and Vicky join the Athens energy team, led by partners Elena Tsohou and Vassilis Koroxenidis, and will support the team on all aspects of energy matters, including corporate and M&A, financings, privatisations, projects and litigation.

Elena Tsohou comments:

“We are delighted to welcome Vicky and Vaia, enhancing the team’s in-depth experience in the energy sector, having acted for energy companies, governments, Distribution Network Operators and associations. Their experience aligns well with the international focus of the team and our plans for it to grow during 2021.”

Vassilis Koroxenidis adds:

“Our Greek energy practice continues to go from strength-to-strength, supporting our clients in Greece in their transition to a low-carbon economy and across the entire energy value chain. Together with our wider European energy practice, with lawyers spread across every major energy market we are, as always, in a position to offer a unique service to our Greek and international energy clients.”

Norton Rose Fulbright has one of the largest energy practices in the world, and in 2020 was named Global Legal Adviser of the Year at the IJ Global Awards, which recognise the best energy, infrastructure and mining deals and firms from around the world. The firm’s Greek energy practice is ranked Band 1/Tier 1 in both Chambers Europe and Legal 500 EMEA.
