Biography

Ai Tong is a corporate lawyer based in Shanghai and has 18 years' experience in China related corporate and regulatory matters. She has considerable experience advising clients in cross-border merger and acquisition transactions, foreign direct investments, joint ventures and general corporate matters in a variety of industrial sectors. Specifically, Ai has extensive experience in the highly regulated financial sector, including advising financial institutional clients (like banks, insurers, fund/asset managers etc.) on their various transactional and regulatory matters.

Ai studied law in China and the United States, and is dually qualified in China (2006) and the State of New York (2011). Before joining Norton Rose Fulbright, Ai has around 4 years' experience in a magic circle firm.

She is recognized for capabilities and experience by Thomson Reuters and The Legal 500.

  • Advised a UK based financial group on its strategic investment in a leading insurtech firm which provides innovative medical payment solutions and medical management and online care services, and on its subsequent business collaboration with the invested insurtech platform
  • Advised a leading private equity investor on acquisition of a UK automobile service provider including a PRC insurance sideline agency company which engages in auto services and claim administration services
  • Advised a UK based financial group on two separate but parallel acquisitions in two mutual fund management companies in China, which is to satisfy the 1+1 ownership requirement in China
  • Advised a UK based financial group on buy-out of its Chinese partner in its life insurance joint venture in China, making the target the first wholly foreign owned life insurer via acquisition
  • Advised a Germany based manufacturer of connector solutions in the high-frequency and fiber optic technology fields on the restructuring of its China business through a combination of share and asset deals
  • Advised a leading US insurance group on the spin-off of its travel business involving 25 jurisdictions (including China)
  • Advised an Australia based cosmetic group on its sale and dissolution of one of its cosmetic brands (involving China entities)
  • Advised a leading US media group on its step acquisitions of a Chinese advertising company
  • Advised a leading European insurance group on its intra-group transfer of a reinsurance company licensed in China
  • Advised a leading European insurance group on its buy-out of the Chinese domestic joint venture partner of a foreign invested property & casualty insurance company in China
