Biography

Alexandra Semykina is a banking and finance lawyer based in Moscow.

She works on different types of finance transactions, including cross-border and domestic finance transactions, with a particular focus on structured trade, commodity finance and asset finance (including aviation and shipping) matters. She has experience in advising banks, ECAs, other financial institutions and corporates on bilateral and syndicated (including ECA-backed) loans. 

In addition, Alexandra regularly advises on various financial regulatory and insolvency matters.

  • leading Russian oil companies on a number of prepayment arrangements funded by structured facility agreements with European and Russian banks, as well as various supply and profit sharing structures;
  • a major LNG project on various aspects (structuring, transactional, regulatory/customs) of shipping arrangements;
  • Coöperatieve Rabobank U.A. on Russian law aspects, including shipping as well as general lending issues, of Atradius-backed financing of ASD Tug 2310 vessels extended to Delo Group;
  • a renowned aircraft leasing company on Russian law aspects of sale and purchase of, and the related novation arrangements relating to, more than 20 aircraft leased to major Russian operators;
  • financing parties and ECAs on US$425m ECA-backed financing of five A330 Airbus aircraft delivered to Aeroflot;
  • Siberia Airlines on the transfer of a fleet of 23 leased Boeing 737 aircraft (plus additional committed aircraft) from Globus LLC to Siberia Airlines JSC, involving multiple lessor counterparties;
  • a European airline on potential Cape Town Convention arguments to be raised in litigation against a bankrupt Russian airline;
  • Immofinanz Group on restructuring of its US$930m Russian credit portfolio;
  • Sberbank of Russia on two non-revolving credit facilities worth RUB16bn (US$550m) provided to Nord Gold N.V.;
  • international financial institutions on Russian law regulatory issues relating to marketing of financial and investment products in Russia; operating trading platforms; change of control in Russian banks and related approval/notifications requirements; establishing a subsidiary of a Russian bank abroad and various other regulatory matters;
  • European banks on insolvency of a number of Russian banks, including Tatfondbank, First Republic Bank, Masterbank, Investbank.
  • Alexandra Semykina contributed to the Russian chapters of Sweet & Maxwell’s Aircraft Liens and Detention Rights and Aircraft finance: registration, security and enforcement.
