Nick Merritt is the global head of infrastructure, mining and commodities. He is a project finance and banking lawyer with a particular focus on the development, financing and acquisition of infrastructure, energy and mining assets.
Nick specialises in major infrastructure projects. He has advised clients across a diverse range of sectors including biofuels, defence, mining, petrochemicals, ports, power generation, rail, renewables, roads, sport and leisure infrastructure, water and waste.
He has advised on many of the leading transactions in the region including the sponsor group developing the Singapore Sports and Infrastructure ‘SportsHub’ PPP project, and power projects totalling almost 5,000MW of capcity.
In addition to infrastructure, Nick has advised on a number of mine acquisitions and financings including mine related infrastructure. His practice also extends to soft commodity related financing products and infrastructure including sugar, cotton and palm oil. He also has extensive multilateral/export credit financings experience and has advised on financings with cover from agencies including ADB, Atradius, COFACE, EKF, EKN, Euler Hermes, Finnvera, IFC, JBIC, KEXIM, K-sure, OeKB, SACE, Sinosure and US Exim.
Recommended in a number of legal publications, Chambers Asia-Pacific 2015 notes that “He is persuasive, gets the deal done and punches hard for his client.” Chambers Asia-Pacific 2018 states that Nick Merritt is highly regarded for his experience in power, mining and PPP projects.
