Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has hired Cicely Reid as its pro bono counsel in the US. Based in Houston, she will support and manage the firm’s continued engagement in pro bono work.
As pro bono counsel, Cicely will oversee the administration of pro bono matters, foster relationships with legal services organizations, source pro bono opportunities and ensure compliance with the firm’s pro bono policies.
“Cicely has successfully administered several pro bono programs during her career and is familiar with pro bono work at large companies and private law firms. Her skills, experience and enthusiasm for pro bono work fit nicely with our needs as we build on our program,” said Adam Schramek, partner and chair of our US Pro Bono Committee.
For the past decade, Cicely served as pro bono coordinator and senior staff attorney for Disability Rights Texas, where she developed, maintained and refined internal and external processes and procedures for pro bono referrals and representation. She established and developed pro bono collaborations with large law firms and companies like Dell, Bank of America, Total Energies, Exxon, Shell, Chevron, AT&T and JP Morgan Chase.
She also worked as in-house counsel and outside conflicts counsel for several large insurance companies, including Nationwide Insurance Company, US Auto/Santa Fe Insurance Group and Allstate Insurance Company. She managed a heavy litigation docket of more than 80 cases as well as a fraud docket. She also maintained a pro bono volunteer program during this time.
In the early 2000s, Cicely worked as an assistant district attorney for the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, first-chairing many criminal jury trials and hearings in Texas county and district courts.
Cicely earned a master’s degree in business administration from Tulane University’s Freeman School of Business in New Orleans, Louisiana, her law degree from the University of Texas School of Law in Austin and her bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University.
