James N. Reed is an associate in Norton Rose Fulbright's New York office and is a member of global law firm's intellectual property group. He focuses his practice on patent litigation, trade secret litigation, patent prosecution and intellectual property transactions.
James' experience with patent and trade secret litigation includes handling discovery issues and disputes, coordinating with technical experts, drafting claim construction briefs, preparing witnesses for testifying, conducting witness depositions and motion practice. His experience includes exposure to mechanization systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), media software platforms and heavy construction equipment.
James' patent prosecution experience includes drafting and prosecuting utility patent applications, and his area of expertise includes autonomous vehicle systems, weapon systems, microelectromechanical systems (MEMs), automotive components, manufacturing techniques and machinery, alternative energy systems, enterprise relationship management software, and consumer and commercial products. His intellectual property transaction experience includes conducting due diligence and drafting agreements involving licensing intellectual property portfolios.
With a background in structural engineering and physics, James is capable of quickly becoming familiar with a wide range of technologies in the structural, mechanical, electrical and software fields. Prior to practicing law, he was a structural project engineer for a company based out of Maryland, and as a project engineer, he was responsible for designing and implementing structural systems for numerous projects.
James is licensed to practice in the state of New York and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and the United States District Courts in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
