The Pensions Ombudsman has announced that its Pensions Dishonesty Unit will shortly be wound down. DWP funding to run the Unit as a pilot has now come to an end, other than the provision of an allowance lasting to the end of October to wind down its work over this financial year (2025/26).
The Unit had unique powers to hold individuals accountable for the actions of trustees where there have been acts of dishonesty, providing victims with a voice and highlighting pension scams.
The Ombudsman said that affected customers will receive signposting to appropriate alternative reporting avenues, such as the Regulator and Action Fraud.
