Lynne O’Brien is a litigation lawyer with experience as in-house counsel for a national investment dealer.
Ms. O’Brien acts as an advocate and negotiator in a variety of corporate and commercial disputes, with a key focus on issues pertaining to securities regulation, corporate governance and insolvency issues. Ms. O’Brien has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario. Her alternative dispute resolution experience includes appearances at arbitrations and mediations in a variety of commercial disputes.
Ms. O’Brien’s areas of expertise include class actions in securities law matters, and securities and financial services disputes, which includes advice to and representation of investment dealers and portfolio managers on a wide variety of issues before the courts, the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) and provincial securities commissions. She also has a corporate and commercial litigation practice, which includes matters of breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, and directors and officers’ liability. Ms. O’Brien frequently conducts investigations regarding regulatory and corporate governance issues, providing advice to management, boards of directors and special committees. Finally, part of her practice relates to estate litigation.
