Cloudesley is an international trade and disputes lawyer based in Sydney with a focus on the transport sector, including the maritime and aviation sectors, and experience of working on a range of matters in the oil and gas and commodities sectors.
Cloudesley focuses on advising multi-national clients in relation to shipping and maritime disputes (both in international arbitrations and court proceedings). His contentious experience includes disputes relating to shipbuilding contracts, charterparties, cargo claims and contracts for the international sale of goods. He also advises on the drafting and negotiation of similar contracts.
He has particular experience advising a range of international clients on the impact of EU, UK and US sanctions and trade controls. His focus is on advising clients in the maritime industry including ship operators, charterers, insurers and financiers both in relation to specific transactions and in relation to general compliance with sanctions. He also has experience of advising companies in the energy, commodities and finance sectors on sanctions compliance.
Cloudesley trained and worked in our London office before moving to Sydney in 2019. Whilst training with us, Cloudesley undertook a six-month secondment to our Athens office where he assisted with a range of financing work in the maritime sector.
