Norton Rose Fulbright secures mandate to advise Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center in Singapore

Singapore Press release - Firm août 2021

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has been appointed sole legal adviser to Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center in Singapore (HMGICS), the Group’s new state-of-the-art research & development and electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Singapore.

HMGICS will act as a testbed for an intelligent manufacturing platform with a small scale EV production facility which will produce up to 30,000 vehicles per year. The facility will utilise the latest smart technologies such as artificial intelligence, internet of things and robotics.

The building will also feature solar panels providing the site with renewable energy. The centre is expected to gradually expand its use of renewable energy to eventually use hydrogen fuel cells as a power supply to minimise emissions.

Norton Rose Fulbright has a mandate to provide legal advice on all aspects of the development of HMGICS including construction, procurement, financing, mergers & acquisitions, disputes, data protection, technology, insurance, real estate and employment.

Norton Rose Fulbright partner Nick Merritt and associate Michael Kim are leading the Singapore team advising HMGICS.

Nick Merritt, who also coordinates the firm’s sustainable finance offering, commented:

“The electric vehicle (EV) market is expanding dramatically reflecting the ongoing digitisation of the transport industry and the drive for decarbonisation through electrification. This burgeoning market requires the implementation of new processes and technologies to increase adoption. We’re delighted to advise Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center in Singapore on this ground breaking project.”
