Biography

Michael Greene is Deputy Chief Executive Partner of our Australian firm, and Head of our National Government Practice.

Michael is an experienced litigator based in Sydney. He has acted for public and private sector clients in the government, financial services, and other corporate sectors. Michael's clients call upon him to advise them on disputes concerning contracts, tendering and procurement, fraud, intellectual property, directors and shareholders, corporate governance, administrative law, statutory duties and interpretation, road transport law, regulation and enforcement and issues concerning privilege and confidentiality.

Michael specialises in advising and appearing for government clients in statutory inquiries including several significant corruption inquiries, a judicial inquiry, special commissions of inquiry, royal commissions and a large number of coronial inquests.

Two of the most significant matters of his career were representing the New South Wales Police Force in relation to the Cuneen Special Commission of Inquiry into matters relating to the police investigation of certain sexual abuse allegations in the Catholic Diocese of Maitland - Newcastle and representing the State of NSW in relation to one of the case studies examined by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Michael is also renowned for his expertise in road transport law and he regularly advised Roads and Maritime Services in relation to enforcement and prosecution matters.

In the private sector, Michael has advised clients on their dealings with corporate regulators such as ASIC and the ACCC, and in substantial contractual disputes, often involving multiple parties and complex project documentation, and trade practices matters.

Michael is listed by Chambers Asia-Pacific as a "Leader in the Field" of Government. He is a CEO Ambassador for the Workplace Gender Equality Agency's national pay equity campaign, a non-executive director of Streetwork, a Sydney based charity which provides support for "at risk" young people, and a Board member of CareerSeekers, which facilitates vocational opportunities for refugees and asylum seekers.

Michael is a director of Jaramer Legal, a majority Indigenous owned law firm formed in a joint venture between Norton Rose Fulbright and Mailman Law.
