Vancouver represents the City of Langley in defending its decision to fly the Pride Flag

Our Vancouver office successfully acted as counsel to the City of Langley (the “City”) before the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal (the “Tribunal”) with respect to dismissing complaints of discrimination against the City regarding the City’s decision to fly the Pride Flag, while refusing to fly a religious flag at City Hall. The decision has precedential value for state actors engaging in activities intended to increase the representation of historically disadvantaged communities, which might amount to differential treatment when viewed against other requests that are refused, including those refused in light of the state’s duty of religious neutrality.
