April 02, 2019

Client: Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA)

Our Vancouver office is advising Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) on the Fairview Container Terminal Expansion and related connector road project. We are advising PRPA on all aspects of the ongoing and proposed expansion of the Fairview Container terminal, including agreements with the terminal operator DP World, agreements with CN Rail and the construction of a new road to connect the container terminal with Ridley Island (thereby significantly reducing truck traffic through the city). These projects involves complex and overlapping issues related to infrastructure development, environmental assessment and permitting, and aboriginal law.

PRPA is the governing body which operates Canada’s port in the Prince Rupert Harbour on the coast of British Columbia, the second largest port in Western Canada and the fourth largest port in Canada. It is currently experiencing rapid industrial growth and is a key player in accessing overseas markets, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. PRPA is responsible for the planning, development, marketing and management of the commercial port facilities within the harbour.

The PRPA service team is led by Greg Lewis, QC and includes Neil Davie, Matthew Keen, Matt Mulligan, Keith Bustard, Mario Rubio, Emily Chan, Michael Manhas and Herman Li.
