Norton Rose Fulbright launches FinTech and InsurTech start-up pro bono legal clinics

Global Press release - Business May 2020

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has today launched pro bono legal clinics for UK-based FinTech and InsurTech start-ups who may be impacted by current market conditions.

The London office of the firm is providing start-ups with the opportunity to speak with its lawyers via virtual legal clinics staffed by partners and associates from a number of practice areas, including corporate, restructuring, regulatory and employment about legal and regulatory issues they may be currently facing and need a steer on. The clinics are available to start-ups at any stage of their development.

The initial initiative will run for a period of 3 months by partners and associates who will provide advice at one-to-one 30-minute clinics. Start-ups wishing to participate will need to fill in an application form and will be selected for assistance on the basis of need and the appropriateness of support which Norton Rose Fulbright can provide.

Norton Rose Fulbright corporate insurance partner Nico Berry who is leading the programme commented: “We are constantly on the lookout for new ways to support start-ups in the FinTech and InsurTech sector, such as providing a £50,000 prize fund to the winner of our annual Insurathon. Given current market conditions, we are aware that start-ups are facing some unprecedented challenges.  Drawing on our longstanding experience working within this sector for both start-ups and established financial institutions and our insights acquired advising clients through this environment and previous market upheavals, we want to support this vital sector at this time. Start-ups with queries about the Government Future Fund and other support schemes or other matters, such as potential changes to funding rounds and equity restructurings are encouraged to apply."

Norton Rose Fulbright is one of the world’s leading FinTech law firms. The firm’s multidisciplinary Tier 1-ranked practice comprises over 300 lawyers across the globe and advises clients on the legal, regulatory and policy challenges related to the development and deployment of technology in the financial services sector.
