Global antitrust and competition trends
What does 2025 have in store for investors and businesses?

In this video, which is part of our video series on antitrust and competition trends, Robin Adelstein and Ian Giles discuss how the geopolitical climate is impacting antitrust and competition policy and enforcement. This includes discussion of significant developments in the US, EU and UK, following last year’s US and UK elections and recent changes in senior officials at the US antitrust agencies, the European Commission and the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
The discussion includes how US antitrust enforcement under the second Trump administration is expected to compare to the Biden administration, and how the UK government’s economic growth agenda is driving changes in the CMA’s approach and a number of related UK reforms. Also discussed is whether tariffs might affect cooperation between competition authorities in different jurisdictions, as well as how the geopolitical climate is increasing focus on issues related to protecting domestic businesses and enabling the creation of national champions.
