Norton Rose Fulbright provides free legal aid during 16 days of activism

Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa is providing free legal counsel on domestic violence issues at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court during the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children.

Every morning, for the duration of the campaign from 25 November to 10 December attorneys are available at the family court helpdesks.

The assistance includes guidance on how to correctly complete protection order application forms and the procedures that must be followed to get an order from the court. The process for receiving resolution from the court is a challenge for many emotionally distraught women who are seeking freedom from domestic violence

Liesl Williams, head of public interest law at Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa commented:

“Our team provides onsite crucial, practical help to victims of abuse. We are also relieving some of the pressure on the court’s clerical staff by guiding the women to complete the correct court documents with the aim of achieving a speedier turn-around times on their cases.

We have helped over 300 women over the past six years and will continue to support this worthy campaign using our legal skills and passion for justice.”
