Sophy Teng is a knowledge of counsel based in Singapore. She is responsible for knowledge across the various practice areas in the office. Sophy develops our knowledge including internal and bespoke client precedents, client publications and alerts. She also provides support and advice to our fee earners on specific legal issues arising from transactions and specific projects.
Sophy also leads our client training initiatives and our internal training programme for our lawyers in Singapore and South Asia region. Sophy has a keen interest in changes in law, including the recent developments in Singapore insolvency and restructuring laws and the evolving legal and regulatory developments to deal with the advent of technology (such as autonomous vehicles).
Prior to moving back to Singapore, Sophy practised as a finance and capital markets lawyer with a magic circle firm in London for 9 years. She worked on a wide range of capital markets and financing transactions, acting for lenders, underwriters, ECAs, sponsors/borrowers and issuers. They include project bond financing, whole business securitisation in the regulated utility sector, bond and convertible bond issues, sukuks, credit-enhanced and ECA-backed issues, structured debt and other capital markets products. Her experience also includes restructurings such as the Eurotunnel restructuring by way of bridge loan finance and subsequent repackaged bonds.
Sophy is dual qualified in both England & Wales and in Singapore.
